5 Years And Counting

My 5 year wedding anniversary was this past Saturday. It’s crazy to me how quickly time flies. It’s been 5 years, and I have 2 kids?! What??!!

The hubby and I met in high school (insert “awwww” here). So, really, we’ve been together for almost 13 years. Obviously, that isn’t proving to be too unlucky!

And, yes, we are among the ones who got married on 07/07/07. Haha, it totally wasn’t planned that way. I promise. It was just the way the dates fell with vacation. Trust me: it was more stressful than a “regular” wedding day would be, in my opinion. EVERYTHING booked up quickly (if it wasn’t booked already!).

So, 5 years ago, here is how happy we were!

We spent our honeymoon at DisneyWorld, which was probably THE BEST vacation I’ve ever been on. Hands down. We had an absolute blast!

Now that we are out here in SoCal, we were able to spend our anniversary at Disneyland (ha, are you surprised?!). We had the kids in tow (it’s hard not knowing anyone to babysit anymore!), but we still had fun.

We even took a picture without the kids (Happy Anniversary buttons and all :-) ).

Where would you spend your anniversary?

Happy Monday!

About Me

I’m Rachel, wife to my amazing hubby, and stay-at-home mommy to 2 beautiful little girls, Goose Face and Crazy Monkey.

Me in a nutshell: Native Texan, turned Californian. Former teacher, turned stay-at-home mom. Fun loving girl at heart, just trying to figure it all out.

Native Texan, Turned Californian

I’m a southern girl – born and raised in Texas. The “Big D” to be exact. I never thought I would leave. My world was turned completely upside down in October 2011. The hubby came to me and asked what I thought about moving to California. Well, in the south, when life hands you lemons you turn them into lemonade. So, that’s exactly what I did. My life became a whirlwind of decisions – I quit my job, we packed our house up and put it on the market, loaded Goose Face, Crazy Monkey, and our 2 little Yorkies in the car and headed off for sunny SoCal at the beginning of November 2011. Yes, you read that right. The hubby got the job transfer offer, we made our decision, and our life was changed forever all in a month. It was the best decision we’ve ever made, and we haven’t looked back since. Plus, the “lemonade” is much sweeter out here in Cali!

Former Teacher, Turned Stay-At-Home Mom

Before I left Texas, I was a first grade teacher. I loved it. I hated it. Growing up, that’s all I ever wanted to do. My mom was a teacher, and I just knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Even when the kids came along, I continued to work. I loved teaching, but I hated the ridiculousness that goes along with it – crazy parents, constant classroom and lesson preparation, politics, you name it. It all sucks. When we made the decision to move, we realized it wasn’t worth it for me to continue working AND pay for childcare. So, I was thrown into the role of “stay at home mom”. Someone I never thought I would be – not in a million years. But, now that I’ve become one, I wouldn’t change it for the world. On most days, of course.

Fun Loving Girl At Heart, Just Trying To Figure It All Out

Now that I’m a stay-at-home mom, I have no idea what I’m doing, and sometimes I don’t even know who I am anymore. I pretty much just “fake it ’til I make it”. Hopefully no one can tell. But, here are a few things that I do already know about who I am:

  • I love patterns of any kind (swirls, stripes, paisley, etc), but polka dots are my favorite – they make me happy
  • I like to think that I’m “crafty” (much to the detriment of the hubby’s wallet)
  • I love my vodka-on-the-couch time
  • I have a total smart mouth
  • I probably should think about what I say, before I say it, more than I actually do
  • I’m addicted to Pinterest
  • I’m addicted to Farmville Sadly, I don’t have the time to play this time-suck of a game right now…
  • I’m addicted to all things Kardashian (yes, I realize that I’m pretty much alone on this one, but I’m completely ok with that)
  • I pretty much spend most of my time at Disneyland with the girls
  • I use way too many exclamation marks (!)

I’m sure there are more things that I will add to this list as I think about them (hey, having 2 kids makes you lose some serious brain cells), but for now that’s about it. Thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit more about me!
