:Fun Finds Friday: Salted Caramels

Starbucks is one of my favorite places to grab a cold drink – namely the Caramel Frappucino (I seriously spend way too much money there).

The only thing that could be better than a Caramel Frappucino is a SALTED Caramel Frappucino. I just love that salty, sweet mix of flavors!

The problem with this addiction? I don’t do the “light” version. What’s the point? I want all the yummy goodness, and that includes the mound of whipped cream on top. So, that can only mean one thing – let’s start adding on the pounds! Ugh.

I constantly feel like a fatty anyway, and I try to be good as far as eating goes, but sometimes (ok, lots of times) I just want something sweet and yummy. Unfortunately, my waistline (and my wallet) can’t handle that many trips to Starbucks! So, what’s the next best thing?

Salted Organic Caramels from Baby Boy Bakery!

At the Elevate Conference I went to recently, we received a treat from Baby Boy Bakery. It. Was. Yummy.

Now that I’ve come across these caramels, which are hand cut, wrapped, and made with organic ingredients, I can’t wait to try them. I’ve already ordered a box, and I know they will be just the thing I need for that midday sweet craving!

Happy Friday!

Elevate – Truly An Inspiration

Most days, I feel like I have absolutely no clue what I’m doing with this little blog of mine. I just tend to write about random stuff that comes to me (and continue to be annoyed that a month’s worth of posts were completely deleted, thanks to a glitch in my blog). I’m sure that half of what I write about doesn’t even make sense to those of you who read it.

When I first decided to start my blog, I had a vision of what I wanted it to become – a place to let my randomness shine, a creative outlet for my (often expensive) craft habit, a way to connect with other moms (and hopefully make some lifelong friends in the process!), and, ultimately, a place to showcase my party designs!

Since moving out to California a few months ago, my life has become vastly different from what I ever imagined it would be. There are days when I feel very lonely. Life sometimes feels very mundane. I feel like I’m just going through the motions, day in and day out. Most of my days are spent with 2 little girls who can’t converse with me in an adult conversation. For anyone who knows me, they know that I thrive off of being around others. I’m a very “social” person (although I married someone who is the complete opposite – we can’t both compete for attention!), and I LOVE being around other people!

When I heard about the Elevate Blog Conference, hosted by Summer from  Made By Munchie’s Mama and Jen from Delightful Deets, I immediately signed up to go. I figured it was a great way to get out of the house and leave the girls at home with the hubby (yikes!). I figured it would allow me to have some “social time” with other women. I figured it would give me some ideas to get my blog moving along.

What I didn’t figure was how truly amazing it would be. Everything was so thought out, every detail planned to perfection – right down to the milk and cookies we were sent home with at the end of the night!

The conference atmosphere was so welcoming, from the Elevate sign leading the way to the super cute decorations (I loved them because they TOTALLY matched my blog theme!).

The food spread (both lunch AND dinner!) was super yummy, and the table settings were adorable (I love the mason jar lids!).

And, of course, the sweets table was amazing.

The conference started off with a “Blogger Bingo” game, which was a great way to break the ice while everyone was arriving. We also had a great time getting to know one another through Speed Networking (think Speed Dating – too fun!).

Summer and Jen, along with Nichole from Yeung Mother Hubbard, organized a great craft project.

We also were able to give back to the community by putting together school supply baggies, as part of The Shine Project. As a former teacher, this service opportunity really hit home.

And, of course, I can’t forget the A.MA.ZING. swag bags we were sent home with! A HUGE thank you to the Elevate sponsors! You guys are awesome!

I went to the Elevate conference on a total whim – looking for a way to have some “me time” without my kids and hubby, to hopefully make some new friends, and to learn a few things about putting together a great blog.

What I came away with was much more than I ever could have hoped for. Not only did I learn so many new things and come a way with so many new ideas, I met some amazing women and created many new friendships.

Here’s to looking forward to next year!

Happy Thursday!

:Things I Love Thursday: Chick-Fil-A Diet Coke

I’m pretty sure that Chick-Fil-A puts crack in their food. Either you love it (totally me), or you hate it (the hubby is not really a fan, but he will indulge me every now and then). And, if you love it, it’s like crack. At least it is for me.

I love pretty much anything at Chick-Fil-A, but I am constantly CRAVING their Diet Coke. There’s just something about it. It tastes way better than any other Diet Coke (it’s the crack, I’m telling you!).

It’s like happiness in a cup (large, please!). So, of course, as I sit here and type I have my Chick-Fil-A Diet Coke by my side!

Are you a Chick-Fil-A addict?

Happy Thursday!

Annndddd…..We Have A Tub Pooper

Yes, this post will probably be waaayyyy TMI for most of you – you’re welcome to leave now. But, for my mommy friends that do stick it out with me, I hope that at least SOME of you can relate!

While growing up, my sister was a tub pooper (she’s going to hate me for writing this). As soon as her little tush hit the water, she’d poop. Every. Single. Time. (Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but in my memory that’s for sure how it was). And, since my mom pretty much always gave us a bath at the same time, I was always in the tub when she pooped. Gross.

Once Goose Face came along, I always had the “tub pooper” thought in the back of my head anytime I gave her a bath. But, she never did. The worst thing that she’s ever done as far as bath time goes is peeing on the floor after the bath and telling me that “Ali Girl (one of our Yorkies) would eat it”. OMG. Seriously, kid? But, at least it was just pee.

Here’s a photo of Goose Face and Ali Girl, taken a few months ago.

Actually, now that I think about it, after the very first bath that the hubby and I gave Goose Face, she completely let loose – pun intended - as soon as we got her towel on. We looked at each other in complete shock at first and then just burst out laughing. What else do you do in that situation?!

Which now brings us to Crazy Monkey. She’s a tub pooper. She didn’t used to be. When she was an infant, and we would give her a bath in the sink by herself, she NEVER pooped. Then, once she was old enough to sit up in the bath by herself, we started giving the girls a bath together. And the tub pooping began. I don’t think she did it the first couple of times, but she has done it several times since. So. Completely. Gross.

And, she did it again tonight! Grrrrr….. My fear of “what if my child poops in the tub” has now turned into “Please don’t let my child poop in the tub tonight. I really don’t have the energy to clean it up – all I want to do is get my kids in bed, make a drink, and plop myself on the couch.” That plea only works about half the time.

But, then again, how can I really bethatannoyed when Crazy Monkey is this super cute?! Granted, this picture is a few months old, but it’s just so stinkin’ adorable (and totally sums up her personality).

Am I going to have CPS called on me for posting this? Seriously, what our world has come to these days… Get a grip, people!

Does anyone else have a tub pooper? Please tell me I’m not the only one!

Happy Wednesday!

:What I {Wish I} Wore Wednesday: Nautical Summer

Yes, this is a repeat outfit. No, it’s not because I’m being lazy!

I had posted this outfit last week, after I had been inspired by my visit to Disney’s California Adventure and the very 20s feel you will find there. For some reason, it just makes me think “nautical”. Plus, living so close to the beach now, that just SCREAMS “nautical”.

I created this outfit myself on Polyvore, and I was very proud of myself and super excited to show it off! And then…my blog crapped out on me. Which really pissed me off. I’m almost over it…almost.

So, that is why you are seeing it again. Whether or not you like it, or would even wear it, I LOVE it and would totally wear it. Oh, if only…

Nautical Summer

Nautical Summer

  • Striped Sailor Top: Gap
  • Sailor Shorts: Oasis
  • Sandals: Christian Louboutin
  • Tote Bag: Tory Burch
  • Bracelet: J. Crew
  • Sunglasses: Christian dior

What is your favorite style to wear in the summer?

Happy Wednesday!

Don’t forget to stop by Bubba’s Basics to check out their “What I {Wish I} Wore Wednesday” posts! (Those girls are amazing!)

Handmade Gift Exchange: Part 2

My Cameo was working overtime today (and I was super excited about it)! I was able to get several things accomplished, including more of the project I am currently working on for the Handmade Gift Exchange, hosted by Linda at Craftaholics Anonymous.

Up until now, I have not used my Cameo for anything but paper cutting (I’m seriously a paper cutting fool these days – lots of exciting things are in store!) but today I busted out the vinyl.

I played around with several letter fonts and sizes, and I cut them on cardstock (several times) before I had them exactly how I wanted them. I figured it was better to waste cardstock than vinyl (good thing, too, because I would have used up all of my vinyl just on the adjustments I kept making).

The deadline for the exchange is this weekend, and my project is coming along nicely! Here’s another sneak peek!

What could it be?

Happy Tuesday!

:Mouthy Monday: Yoga Pants

I practically live in my yoga pants. They’re just so comfy. Plus, they’re not “binding” as a friend of mine would say (haha, Lindsay!). I always keep a pair next to the bed, so that when I wake up late every morning (I just canNOT wake up for the life of me these days – must be the “no routine” thing…) I can just throw them on, get the kids ready for the day (or not), and go!

Lately, I’ve really been loving my yoga pants, because I’ve been feeling like a serious fatty. I haven’t gained any weight (unless the scale is lying to me…is that possible?), but everything I own just doesn’t seem to fit. So, day in and day out, I throw on the trusty yoga pants, but there’s always that nagging voice in the back of my head telling me I need to go work out (YES, I KNOW THIS!!!).

So, with that being said…

Happy Monday!

About Me

I’m Rachel, wife to my amazing hubby, and stay-at-home mommy to 2 beautiful little girls, Goose Face and Crazy Monkey.

Me in a nutshell: Native Texan, turned Californian. Former teacher, turned stay-at-home mom. Fun loving girl at heart, just trying to figure it all out.

Native Texan, Turned Californian

I’m a southern girl – born and raised in Texas. The “Big D” to be exact. I never thought I would leave. My world was turned completely upside down in October 2011. The hubby came to me and asked what I thought about moving to California. Well, in the south, when life hands you lemons you turn them into lemonade. So, that’s exactly what I did. My life became a whirlwind of decisions – I quit my job, we packed our house up and put it on the market, loaded Goose Face, Crazy Monkey, and our 2 little Yorkies in the car and headed off for sunny SoCal at the beginning of November 2011. Yes, you read that right. The hubby got the job transfer offer, we made our decision, and our life was changed forever all in a month. It was the best decision we’ve ever made, and we haven’t looked back since. Plus, the “lemonade” is much sweeter out here in Cali!

Former Teacher, Turned Stay-At-Home Mom

Before I left Texas, I was a first grade teacher. I loved it. I hated it. Growing up, that’s all I ever wanted to do. My mom was a teacher, and I just knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Even when the kids came along, I continued to work. I loved teaching, but I hated the ridiculousness that goes along with it – crazy parents, constant classroom and lesson preparation, politics, you name it. It all sucks. When we made the decision to move, we realized it wasn’t worth it for me to continue working AND pay for childcare. So, I was thrown into the role of “stay at home mom”. Someone I never thought I would be – not in a million years. But, now that I’ve become one, I wouldn’t change it for the world. On most days, of course.

Fun Loving Girl At Heart, Just Trying To Figure It All Out

Now that I’m a stay-at-home mom, I have no idea what I’m doing, and sometimes I don’t even know who I am anymore. I pretty much just “fake it ’til I make it”. Hopefully no one can tell. But, here are a few things that I do already know about who I am:

  • I love patterns of any kind (swirls, stripes, paisley, etc), but polka dots are my favorite – they make me happy
  • I like to think that I’m “crafty” (much to the detriment of the hubby’s wallet)
  • I love my vodka-on-the-couch time
  • I have a total smart mouth
  • I probably should think about what I say, before I say it, more than I actually do
  • I’m addicted to Pinterest
  • I’m addicted to Farmville Sadly, I don’t have the time to play this time-suck of a game right now…
  • I’m addicted to all things Kardashian (yes, I realize that I’m pretty much alone on this one, but I’m completely ok with that)
  • I pretty much spend most of my time at Disneyland with the girls
  • I use way too many exclamation marks (!)

I’m sure there are more things that I will add to this list as I think about them (hey, having 2 kids makes you lose some serious brain cells), but for now that’s about it. Thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit more about me!

Handmade Gift Exchange: Part 1

I love looking through Pinterest late at night, while the rest of my house sleeps. I always find so many cute craft projects on there! Of course, I’m going to get to them all, right?! (Ha, one can dream…) My biggest problem is that I just can never find the time to actually sit down and make anything!

Recently, I came across a Handmade Gift Exchange, hosted by Linda over at Craftaholics Anonymous. Twice a year Linda hosts the gift exchange, in which participants make a handmade gift for the “crafter” they are paired with.

When I found this exchange, the first thing that came to mind was “Wow! This is totally an excuse to make something that I’ve only drooled over on Pinterest!”. I figured that the deadline, (and the fact that someone is relying on me to receive something totally awesome and handmade), would be just the push I needed to choose a project and get busy!

The deadline is on June 30th, only a few days away, and the project is coming along pretty well (if you consider “pretty well” to mean not even halfway finished…). But, I have always worked better under pressure!

So, while I don’t have a completed project to show you yet, I can give you a sneak peek – just ignore the cardboard :-) !

Hmmm…what do you think it could be?

Happy Sunday!

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The good: my blog is fixed.

The bad: it took me FOR.EV.ER. to fix it.

The ugly: I have to start over from scratch. Awesome.

On the bright side: At least it wasn’t years and years and years in the making!

Happy Friday!
